| Abstract | Household waste management based on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is one of the effective strategies to reduce waste generation while preserving environmental sustainability. The successful implementation of the 3R concept is influenced by several factors, including the knowledge and attitudes of housewives, who play a major role in managing household waste. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of housewives and household waste management based on the 3R principles in Hamlet II, Sidomulyo Village, Biru-Biru District, Deli Serdang Regency, in 2026. This study employed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 393 households, and a sample of 80 respondents was selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed a significant relationship between the knowledge of housewives and household waste management based on the 3R principles (p-value = 0.000). In addition, there was a significant relationship between the attitudes of housewives and household waste management based on the 3R principles (p-value = 0.009). These findings indicate that better knowledge and more positive attitudes are associated with better implementation of household waste management based on the 3R principles. In conclusion, the knowledge and attitudes of housewives were significantly associated with household waste management based on the 3R principles. Therefore, efforts to improve public education, environmental awareness, and waste management programs are needed to encourage the sustainable implementation of the 3R principles at the household level. | 1 |
