| Abstract | Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) encompasses efforts to protect workers from the risks of workplace accidents and occupational diseases. Fishermen constitute a group of workers facing a high risk of workplace accidents due to the marine environment and its various potential hazards. Knowledge regarding OSH is expected to foster safe work practices, thereby minimizing accident risks. This study aimed to determine the relationship between fishermen's knowledge of OSH and their safe work practices in Pangkalan Brandan (Sei Bilah Timur Urban Village, Langkat Regency) in 2026. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study sample consisted of 71 fishermen selected using the accidental sampling technique. Data were collected via questionnaires and subsequently analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Chi-Square test. The results revealed that the majority of respondents (41 or 57.7%) possessed a Boor" level of OSH knowledge, whereas 40 respondents (56.3%) demonstrated a good level of safe work practices. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between fishermen's OSH knowledge and safe work practices (p-value = 0.026; p < 0.05). It is concluded that better OSH knowledge among fishermen correlates with better safe work practices. Therefore, enhanced ucation and outreach regarding OSH are necessary to improve safe work ractices and reduce the risk of workplace accidents. | 1 |
