Abstract Aulia, Nur. Characteristics of microplastic polymer profiles in mussel soft tissue of blood cockles (Anadara granosa L) using FTIR. Thesis, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husad Deli Tua Health Institut . (Supervised by : apt. Sulasmi, S.Farm., M.K.M, M.Farm) Blood clams (Anadara granosa L) are benthic filter-feeding organisms highly vulnerable to accumulating microplastic pollutants from coastal environments. This study aimed to identify the morphology, abundance levels, and polymer types of microplastics in the soft tissue of blood clams based on shell length variations. The research method used an experimental laboratory approach, including isolation using 10% Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) digestion and Zinc Chloride (ZnCl₂) density separation. Morphology was identified via light microscopy, and polymer types were identified using Attenuated Total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. The results revealed four morphological shapes: film, fiber, pellet, and fragment. The average microplastic abundance increased with shell size: small (1–3 cm) at 1.21 particles/g; medium (3.1–4 cm) at 1.41 particles/g; and large (>4 cm) at 1.47 particles/g. Simple linear regression analysis showed a highly significant positive relationship between shell length (X) and microplastic abundance (Y) with the equation Y=1.022+0.103X, a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.999 (99% contribution), and a P-value < 0.001. ATR-FTIR analysis confirmed that the dominant polymer types were Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), and Polyamide (PA). In conclusion, the physical size and biomass of clams are directly proportional to their microplastic bioaccumulation capacity, reflecting high exposure to domestic waste and fishing activities.Future research should expand sampling areas and analyze water quality and sedimentation parameters in the clam's habitat for more comprehensive data. Additionally, public education for coastal communities on plastic waste management is necessary to mitigate microplastic pollution. 1
