| Abstract | Lip balm is a topical cosmetic preparation that functions to protect and maintain lip moisture. This study is aimed to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of lip balm preparations based on red spinach leaf ethanol extract (Amaranthus tricolor L.) with a combination of cera alba and carnauba wax bases and the addition of strawberry flavor oil, which is known to contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and anthocyanins with antioxidant activity. The extract was obtained by the maceration method with 96% ethanol, then formulated into three concentration variations (1%, 3%, and 5%). Evaluation was carried out on physical quality parameters (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, adhesion, spreadability, irritation) and lip moisturizing effectiveness using a skin analyzer on 15 volunteers for four weeks. The results showed that all formulas met the quality requirements of lip balm preparations and were safe to use, with a concentration of 5% providing the best moisturizing effectiveness. This study has supported the potential of red spinach leaves as an effective natural active ingredient for the development of nature-based lip care cosmetic products. | 1 |
