| Abstract | Eye fatigue or asthenopia pathophysiologically occurs due to continuous tension in the ciliary muscles and optic nerve. When someone works in dim lighting conditions, the eyes automatically make adaptive efforts by dilating the pupils wider and increasing the accommodative activity of the lens to capture a clearer image of objects. This study aimed to determine the relationship between lighting intensity and eye fatigue while controlling for age and years of service among workers in the cooking oil production area of PT Agro Raya Mas in 2026. This Study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 40 respondents selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected using a lux meter and questionnaires and were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents worked under lighting conditions that did not meet the required standards, accounting for 34 workers (85.0%), and experienced a high level of eye fatigue, also accounting for 34 workers (85.0%). Among workers exposed to non-standard lighting conditions, 31 workers (91.2%) experienced high eye fatigue. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between lighting intensity and eye fatigue (p = 0.033), age and eye fatigue (p = 0.033), and years of service and eye fatigue (p = 0.008). The conclusion showed that there is a significant relationship between age and the level of eye fatigue, lighting intensity and the level of eye fatigue among workers at PT Agro Raya Mas in 2026. This study suggested to PT Agro Raya Mas to evaluate and improve lighting intensity according to standards, and to conduct regular eye health examinations and scheduled rest periods to reduce the risk of eye fatigue among workers. | 1 |
