| Abstract | Work fatigue is one of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) issues that can affect the safety, health, and performance of firefighters. Shift work systems and long working hours have the potential to increase the risk of work fatigue. This study is aimed to analyze the relationship between working hours and work fatigue among personnel of the Medan City Fire and Rescue Department in 2026. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 40 operational firefighters, and the total sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Data on working hours were collected through questionnaires and attendance records, while work fatigue was measured using the Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Spearman Rank Correlation test. The Spearman Rank Correlation test indicated a statistically significant relationship between working hours and work fatigue (p = 0.001) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.743, indicating a strong positive correlation . It is recommended that the institution evaluate its shift scheduling system, implement a fatigue management program, and optimize rest periods to reduce the risk of work fatigue and improve occupational safety. | 1 |
