| Abstract | Kecapi leaves (Sandoricum koetjape) are known to contain various secondary metabolites with potential antibacterial activity, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids. The utilization of natural products as antibacterial agents continues to be developed due to the increasing incidence of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. One of the bacteria that commonly causes infections in humans is Escherichia coli. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial potential of the ethanol extract of Sandoricum koetjape leaves against Escherichia coli. This study is aimed to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of the ethanol extract of Sandoricum koetjape leaves against Escherichia coli. This research was an experimental laboratory study using the dilution method. The leaf simplicia were first characterized to evaluate the quality of the raw material, followed by phytochemical screening and extraction using the maceration method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. The obtained extract was then evaluated for its antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli using the microdilution method to determine the MIC and MBC values. The results showed that the ethanol extract of S. koetjape leaves contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids. The antibacterial activity test demonstrated that the MIC value was 500 ppm, while the MBC value was 700 ppm. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Sandoricum koetjape leaves possesses antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli by inhibiting and killing bacterial growth at specific concentrations. These results indicate that the ethanol extract of Sandoricum koetjape leaves has the potential to be further developed as an alternative natural antibacterial agent. | 1 |
