| Abstract | Bidara leaves possess diverse secondary metabolites, including flavonoids. tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and steroids/triterpenoids, which exhibit antioxidant properties and potential dermatological benefits. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Bidara leaf ethanolic extract, its feasibility in a peel-off gel mask formulation with acceptable physical characteristics, and the most effective concentration for skin brightening. An experimental method was employed. The extract was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol, followed by phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity testing using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The extract was formulated into peel-off gel masks at concentrations of 0% F0. 4% F1, 5% F2 and 6% F3. Physical evaluations included organoleptic properties, homogeneity. pH, spreadability, viscosity, and irritation. Effectiveness was evaluated in 15 volunteers over six days using a skin analyzer to measure skin tone, moisture and oil levels. The IC50 values were 87.00, 70.12, 65.02, and 61.22 ppm, respectively. All formulations met the required physical characteristics and caused no irritation. F3 demonstrated the best descriptive effectiveness, with a decrease in skin tone of 4.67 units, an increase in moisture of 17.40 units, and a decrease in oil of 10.13 units. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in skin tone (p>0.05), whereas significant differences were observed in moisture and oil levels (p<0.05). Therefore, F3 containing 6% Bidara leaf extract was the best formulation for a peel-off gel mask to help improve skin condition and brightness. | 1 |
