| Abstract | ABSTRACT Dandruff is one of the common scalp disorders that may be associated with the growth of Malassezia furfur. The use of natural ingredients as active substances in hair tonic preparations can be an alternative approach to inhibiting the growth of this fungus. Sikkam leaves (Bischofia javanica Blume) are known to contain secondary metabolites that have potential antifungal activity. This study is aimed to formulate ethanol extract of sikkam leaves (Bischofia javanica Blume) into a hair tonic preparation, evaluate the physical properties of the preparation, and determine its antifungal activity against Malassezia furfur. This study was an experimental laboratory study. Sikkam leaves were extracted using ethanol, followed by phytochemical screening and formulation of hair tonic preparations containing extract concentrations of 5% (F1), 10% (F2), and 15% (F3). The preparations were evaluated based on organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, and viscosity. Antifungal activity was tested using the disc diffusion method against Malassezia furfur, with a hair tonic base as the negative control and a positive control. The results showed that all hair tonic formulations were homogeneous and met the pH requirements, with pH values of 5.29 for F1, 5.33 for F2, and 5.63 for F3. The viscosity values were 4.30 cP, 4.60 cP, and 4.80 cP, respectively. The antifungal activity test showed mean inhibition zone diameters of 11.65 mm for F1, 12.15 mm for F2, and 13.31 mm for F3, while the negative control showed no inhibition zone. The 15% formulation (F3) showed the highest antifungal activity, with a mean inhibition zone diameter of 13.32 mm. Based on the results, ethanol extract of sikkam leaves can be formulated into a hair tonic preparation and has activity in inhibiting the growth of Malassezia furfur.
