| Abstract | Advanced Maternal Age (AMA), namely maternal age ≥35 years, is one of the factors that may increase the risk of obstetric complications. This study aims to analyze the association between maternal age groups and labor complications and neonatal outcomes at the 5th Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, China. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data from the medical records of parturient women during the period of January–March 2026. A sample of 168 parturient women was selected using total sampling. Age groups were classified as 20–34 years and ≥35 years. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test or Fisher’s Exact Test with a significance level of p<0.05. The majority of participants were aged 20–34 years (91.1%), while the advanced maternal age (AMA) group accounted for 8.9%. There was a highly significant association between maternal age and preeclampsia (p < 0.001), as well as a significant association with postpartum hemorrhage (p = 0.023), but with a paradoxical pattern. There was no significant association between maternal age and gestational diabetes mellitus (p = 0.665) or preterm delivery (p = 1.000). No cases of low birth weight or a 5-minute APGAR score <7 were found in the entire sample. In conclusion, AMA is strongly associated with the incidence of preeclampsia, whereas the association with other obstetric complications has not yet shown a consistent pattern. Studies with larger samples and control for confounding factors are needed to clarify these associations. | 1 |
