| Abstract | Dandruff is a common scalp disorder often caused by fungal infections. One alternative treatment is the use of natural ingredients such as clove floweressential oil (Syzygium aromaticum L.), which is known to have antifungal activity. This study aimed to formulate a hair tonic containing clove essential oil and to evaluate its physical characteristics as well as its antifungal activity against Candida albicans.The research method included the formulation of hair tonic with various concentrations of clove essential oil, followed by evaluation tests including organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesiveness, and drying time. Antifungal activity was tested using the diffusion method on appropriate media to observe the inhibition zone against Candida albicans. The obtained data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA.The results showed that the clove essential oil hair tonic met the requirements of good physical evaluation and exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albicans, as indicated by the formation of inhibition zones. Higher concentrations of essential oil tended to produce stronger antifungal activity.In conclusion, clove essential oil can be formulated into a stable hair tonic preparation and is effective as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans. | 1 |
