| Abstract | Oil palm harvesters are at high risk of developing skin disease symptoms due to exposure to workplace hazards, including palm sap, chemicals, and hot, humid working conditions, particularly when personal hygiene practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are inadequate. This study aimed to analyse the relationship between personal hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), with skin disease symptoms among oil palm harvesters at PT Asam Jawa in 2026. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 60 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 63.3% of respondents had poor personal hygiene, 51.7% used complete PPE, and 70.0% experienced skin disease symptoms. Statistical analysis revealed significant associations between personal hygiene (p = 0.002) and skin disease symptoms, as well as between PPE use (p = 0.001) and skin disease symptoms. These findings concluded that highlight the importance of improving personal hygiene practices, increasing compliance with PPE use, and strengthening occupational health and safety education and supervision programmes to prevent skin diseases among oil palm plantation workers. It is recommended that the company strengthen occupational health and safety (OHS) education and supervision, while workers are encouraged to maintain good personal hygiene and consistently use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent skin disease symptoms. | 1 |
