| Abstract | Oil palm leaves as known as Elaeis guineensis Jacq. eaves are plantation waste containing phenolic compounds with potential to be utilized as natural active ingredients in antiseptic preparations. This study is aimed to formulate ethanol extract of oil palm leaves into antiseptic wet wipes, determine the total phenolic content of the formulation, and evaluate its physical quality. The oil palm leaf extract was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol. Total phenolic content was determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu method with a UV-Visible spectrophotometer and gallic acid as the reference standard. The extract was formulated into three concentrations of antiseptic wet wipes (F1, F2, and F3), followed by evaluations of organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, absorption capacity, and stability. The data were statistically analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. The results showed that all formulations met the physical quality requirements for antiseptic wet wipes. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in total phenolic content among the formulations (p<0.05). Formulation 2 exhibited the highest total phenolic content compared with the other formulations. In conclusion, ethanol extract of oil palm leaves was successfully formulated into antiseptic wet wipes that fulfilled the required physical quality standards. The formulation significantly affected the total phenolic content of the prepared wet wipes. Future research is recommended to evaluate the antiseptic activity, optimize the formulation, and identify the bioactive compounds of Elaeis guineensis Jacq. leaf extract using more selective analytical methods.
