| Abstract | Sweet flag rhizome (Acorus calamus L). Is a medicinal plant containing essential oil with potential use in aromatherapy. This study is aimed to extract essential oil from the rhizome, identify its secondary metabolite content, formulate it into an aromatherapy roll-on product, and evaluate its physical quality. The research is conducted experimentally, involving the preparation of crude drug material (simplicia), essential oil distillation, phytochemical screening, roll-on formulation, physical evaluation, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis. Distillation of 3 kg of sweet flag rhizome yielded 10 mL of essential oil, representing a yield of 0.33%. Phase separation of the oil and water was performed by using a separatory funnel, with the addition of Na₂SO₄ to remove residual water. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, and glycosides. The resulting roll-on product met the requirements for homogeneity, organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, stability, irritation, and hedonic testing. Based on the results, sweet flag rhizome essential oil can be formulated into an aromatherapy roll-on product that meets physical quality standards. | 1 |
