| Abstract | Foot odor is one of the problems that can be caused by bacterial activity, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus. Jelantir leaves (Erigeron sumatrensis Retz.) are known to contain secondary metabolites such as glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and steroids/triterpenoids that have potential antibacterial activity. This study aimed to determine whether a foot spray preparation containing ethanol extract and fractions of jelantir leaves meets the requirements for preparation evaluation, exhibits antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, and to determine which extract or fraction is the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. This study was a laboratory experimental study. Jelantir leaves were extracted using the maceration method with ethanol as the solvent, followed by fractionation using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 70% ethanol as solvents. The ethanol extract and jelantir leaf fractions were then formulated into foot spray preparations at concentrations of 20%, 25%, and 30%. The preparations were evaluated based on organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, and spreadability, while antibacterial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus using the diffusion method. The antibacterial activity data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by the Tukey HSD test. The results showed that the foot spray preparations containing ethanol extract and jelantir leaf fractions met the requirements for preparation evaluation. All formulations exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, as indicated by the formation of inhibition zones. The results showed differences in antibacterial activity among the formulations, with the 30% ethyl acetate fraction producing the largest inhibition zone diameter of 15.55 mm. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract and fractions of jelantir leaves can be formulated into foot spray preparations that meet the requirements for preparation evaluation and exhibit antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with the 30% ethyl acetate fraction being the most effective formulation in inhibiting bacterial growth. | 1 |
