| Abstract | Fever is an elevation of body temperature above normal limits caused by infection or an inflammatory process. Long-term use of synthetic antipyretic drugs can lead to side effects, creating a need for natural alternatives. Hibiscus leaves (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.) are known to contain secondary metabolites—such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids—that potentially possess antipyretic activity. This study is aimed to formulate a patch containing Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. leaf extract, evaluate the physical characteristics of the preparation, and determine its antipyretic effectiveness in male Wistar rats. The study employed an experimental design involving the preparation of crude drug material (simplicia), extraction via maceration with 96% ethanol, phytochemical screening, patch formulation (using extract concentrations of 3%, 6% and 9%), physical evaluation of the patches, and antipyretic activity testing on 30 male Wistar rats induced with 5% peptone. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA. The results showed that the crude drug material met the requirements of the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia, and phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids. All patch formulations met physical evaluation standards. Antipyretic activity testing demonstrated that the hibiscus leaf extract patches could lower the rats' body temperature, with the 9% concentration formula showing the greatest tendency for temperature reduction. However, statistical analysis revealed no significant difference between the treatment groups (p = 0.117; p > 0.05). Thus, hibiscus leaf extract was successfully formulated into a patch that met physical requirements and demonstrated potential antipyretic activity.
