| Abstract | Acne is a skin disease often caused by infection with the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Long-term use of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance, necessitating alternative treatments derived from natural ingredients. Starfruit flowers (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) are known to contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and polyphenols, which have antibacterial potential. This study aimed to formulate an ethanol extract of starfruit flowers into an ointment, evaluate the physical characteristics of the preparation, and determine its antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This was an experimental study. Starfruit flower samples were processed into crude drugs, then characterized and phytochemically screened. Extraction was carried out using a maceration method with 96% ethanol as a solvent. The resulting extract was formulated into ointment preparations at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. The ointment preparations were then evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and irritation. It is recommended that future research conduct antibacterial testing on different formulations of the ethanolic extract of (Averrhoa bilimbi L). flowers. | 1 |
