| Abstract | SAUSAN, ZAHRA. 2026. The Relationship Between Medical Record Staff Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Diagnosis Coding Accuracy at RST TK IV Padangsidimpuan. Undergraduate Thesis, Department of Health Information Management (Applied Bachelor's Program), Faculty of Public Health, Deli Husada Deli Tua Institute of Health Sciences (Supervised by: Yunita Syahputri Damanik, S.K.M., M.K.M.). Diagnosis coding accuracy is a crucial indicator in medical record management, as it impacts the quality of health data, hospital reporting, management decision-making, and healthcare financing. One factor hypothesized to influence diagnosis coding accuracy is the level of medical record staff knowledge regarding medical terminology. Good knowledge of medical terminology enables staff to better understand diagnoses written by physicians, thereby allowing them to assign diagnosis codes in accordance with ICD-10 standards. This study aims to determine the relationship between medical record staff knowledge of medical terminology and diagnosis coding accuracy at RST TK IV Padangsidimpuan. A quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of all medical record staff responsible for diagnosis coding at RST TK IV Padangsidimpuan. A total sampling technique was used, resulting in 30 respondents. Data collection involved the use of a questionnaire to measure medical terminology knowledge and an observation sheet to assess diagnosis coding accuracy based on ICD-10. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results indicate that 14 respondents (70%) possessed a good level of knowledge regarding medical terminology, 4 respondents (20%) had sufficient knowledge, and 2 respondents (10%) had poor knowledge. Meanwhile, regarding the accuracy of diagnosis coding, 16 respondents (80%) performed coding accurately, while 4 respondents (20%) still made coding errors. The Chi-Square test results showed a p-value of 0.021 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between the medical record staff's knowledge of medical terminology and the accuracy of diagnosis coding at RST TK IV Padangsidimpuan. The study concludes that there is a significant relationship between the medical record staff's knowledge of medical terminology and the accuracy of diagnosis coding; the better the staff's knowledge of medical terminology, the higher the level of accuracy in the resulting diagnosis codes. Therefore, the hospital is expected to enhance staff competence through training in medical terminology and ICD-10, as well as the implementation of periodic coding audits, to improve the quality of medical record services. | id |
