| Abstract | The return of medicalrecord files is a criticalsystem, as it is linked to hospitalreporting and the insurance claims process. However, several studies indicate that the return of inpatient medicalrecord files often failsto meet the standards established by individual hospitals, with a delay rate exceeding 50% and instances where the return time surpasses the 48-hour (2x24 hour) limit. This situation leads to various consequences, including delays in the processing of medical record data. The purpose of this study is to analyze the causes of delays in the return of inpatient medical record files at hospitals. The research method employed is a literature review, utilizing articles published between 2010 and 2020 from three databases (Google Scholar, Portal Garuda, and the Asian Journal of Case Reports in Medicine and Health). A total of 15 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research findings indicate eight factors contributing to delays in the return of inpatient medicalrecord files: knowledge, attitude, standard operating procedures, incompleteness of records, education, age, and length ofservice. The primary reasons for the delay in returning medical records from the wards to the medical records department include the respondents' lack of ANALYSIS OF FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO DELAYS IN THE RETURN OF INPATIENT MEDICAL RECORD FILES AT TARUTUNG REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL (RSUD TARUTUNG) IN 2026 x knowledge regarding the maximum time limit for returning records, a lack of discipline among respondents—often resulting in records being returned only after they have accumulated—and a failure to disseminate information regarding the established deadlines for transferring medical records from the care units to the medical records department. | 1 |
