| Abstract | The palm oil processing industry is a work environment with the potential for dust generation, particularly during boiler, kernel, and conveyor processing operations. Continuous dust exposure can lead to respiratory health issues, such as Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI). This study aimed to determine the relationship between palm kernel dust exposure levels and ARI symptoms among palm oil mill workers at PT PP London Sumatra Indonesia Tbk (Begerpang, Deli Serdang Regency) in 2026. A quantitative method with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of 120 workers in the boiler, kernel, and conveyor sections, with a sample of 54 respondents selected via simple random sampling. Dust exposure levels were measured using a particle counter at three locations—the boiler, kernel, and conveyor areas—and categorized as high or low based on the median value. Data on ARI symptoms were collected via questionnaires. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted, utilizing the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The risk of ARI symptoms was analyzed using Prevalence Ratio (PR = 2.50) and a 95% Confidence Interval (CI = 1.151–5.431). The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between palm kernel dust exposure levels and ARI symptoms among the workers (p-value = 0.004; p < 0.05). Workers exposed to high levels of dust faced a 2.50 times higher risk of experiencing ARI symptoms compared to those with low dust exposure. It is recommended that workers enhance dust exposure control measures, specifically by using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks, to prevent adverse health effects.
