| Abstract | Skin infections caused by Propionibacterium acnes and Streptococcus pyogenes remain a health problem, highlighting the need for natural antibacterial agents. Bakau kurap (Rhizophora mucronata) leaves are known to contain secondary metabolites with antibacterial potential. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the 70% ethanolic extract of Rhizophora mucronata leaves against Propionibacterium acnes and Streptococcus pyogenes and to identify its secondary metabolites using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Antibacterial activity was evaluated by the disc diffusion method using extract concentrations of 25%, 30%, and 50%. The results showed that the extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins and was able to inhibit the growth of both tested bacteria. The 50% extract exhibited the strongest antibacterial activity, and statistical analysis showed a significant difference among treatment groups (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that the 70% ethanolic extract of Rhizophora mucronata leaves has potential as a natural antibacterial agent against Propionibacterium acnes and Streptococcus pyogenes. | 1 |
