| Abstract | In writing this book I have been fortunate enough to work in an environment where philosophy of nursing is taken seriously. So it has been possible to discuss the ideas explored within the book with many students and colleagues. It is not possible to mention all those who have helped my thinking in the area of philosophy of nursing, but I owe very considerable debts of gratitude to Louise de Raeve, Paul Wainwright, Keith Cash, Diana Moore, David Greaves, John Paley and Martyn Evans. Particular thanks are due to John Paley.
