Abstract Infection: Microbiology and Management encompasses the management of infections in both the hospital and the community. It has been designed as a problem-solving text, which will be equally useful both to those preparing for ex- aminations and to those working in the clinical setting. The introductory section sets out the important defi ni- tions required for the understanding of infectious diseases, their origins and routes of transmission to humans, their diagnosis, management and control. The presentation, diagnosis and management of individual diseases are de- scribed in the systematic chapters. Each chapter introduc- es the range of diseases that can affect the relevant system, and lists the pathogens responsible for each presentation in approximate order of importance. For each individual pathogen, the epidemiology and microbiology, clinical presentations and diagnosis, and strategies for prevention and control are described. en
